Roof top Mombassa Tent
Finally got my roof top tent and got it thrown on tonight. Its a Mombassa, expedition series with the new poly cotton material. It came from Scott at Tent-Top.com. Awesome customer service. He answered all calls right away, and answered all questions. Anyway I have the MBRP roof rack so I had to kinda modify my tent a bit. I had to drill the base rail holes 2" further apart and reinstall. I also had to buy 3" bolts instead of the supplied 2" bolts for mounting the tent on the rack because the MBRP rack is thicker than normal. Anyhow it was dark so I didnt get to take many pics, and a storm was comeing so I was a little rushed but heres a couple pics.

Well done, looks good.
1. Does it also fold into a bag for storage while you are on the road?
2. What was the cost compared to other similar ones on the market?
3. Did you get up into it and have to do anything to set it up, or is it all from the outside?

1. yes it has a storage bag, It folds up and the bag goes right over the top. And Ill add the bag is friggin heavy duty! It is ridiculous, I dont think lava could get into this thing haha.
2. Cost was in the same range as the modles that are the same size such as camping lab, and a few others, BUT, Scott doesnt charge shipping to all 48 lower states. And I got the new poly cotton fabric which added an extra $100 to the price. BUT, Scott does not charge shipping so thats an extra $200 saved. I couldnt find anyone else who did that.
3. Yes I was in it! Its awesome. It really is like a tree house for men. It feels VERY sturdy and the padding is really comfortable. I am very impressed with this tent. It feels very heavy duty. Everything can be done from the inside. The windows rain awnings are just held up by metal bendable rods.
- Ill post pics tomorrow of it opened up in the light, and closed up so you can see the cover.

Man that is so freaking sweeeeet.
A few more questions if you don't mind.
1. Is that the MBRP roof rack that attaches to the hard top? (kinda looks like it but I don't look at many roof racks) if so, is that strong enough to support two people and gear?
2. Where do those support straps attach?
3. That ladder doesn't look like it extends much further, do you think this set up would work on a lifted jeep? I'm probably only sitting another 6 inches up from stock, but that ladder looks like it would buckle if it was extended any further.
4. Does it feel safe? wouldn't flip the thing over if you fell backward into it will trying to get into your sleeping bag etc?
5. could it be set up on the opposite way, so that the ladder was on the left, if neccasary?
These might be some common knowledge questions, but like I said, fairly new to this idea.
thanks alot! and again, sweet set up!

1- Yes the MBRP is the rack that attaches to thye sides. I went with it because it holds 900 pds. So the tent and two people are way under what it can handle.
2- Support straps? I think you are talking about the black straps on the other side hanging over. The are for when the tent is closed up and the cover is on. They just run along the top and pull everything tight and compact.
3- The ladder does not extend much further. But they make a ladder extension for that reason. I thinks its like $50 or something.
4- It feel very safe. Actually I thought it would be a little more wobbly then it is but it is very sturdy feeling. I could jump up and down on the aluminum base and it wouldnt break.
5- Yes you can set it up to face all 4 directions. The instructions are very clear that come with it and tell you how to face it any way you want.
- let me know if you have any more questions. Ill post a few more pics up tonight. I have to show the girlfriend so Ill have open and closed pics of the tent.

Yes it feel like it can handle a lot. $800 is a lot for a tent (not for a roof top tent), but this FEELS like a $800 tent. If feels like I got $800 out of it. Its strong, the fabric is heavy, the support parts are metal, the cover feels like its made of Superman skin. Its a bad ass tent.
