Talking Nice idea!

After thinking about it and reading all the posts, I figured the plastic piece that DerrJK used would indeed be too loose/flimsy (been a while since I pulled that piece off). When I took a look, however, I found that the 4-5 clips holding it in were tenacious. They could 'handle' the shovel with ease.

I used nuts n bolts on the plastic, and sheet metal screws for the axe. I found the Quick Fist clamps at Cabela's for $7.99.

Thanks DerrJK!

I'd love to see a close up of how you mounted the shovel to the cowel. Did you fab your own bracket?

So I can just pull straight out on the bottom of the plastic panel to pop the panel off? I can easily get the top of it undone but the bottom is on really good. I didn't want to force the bottom and break any plastic clips. Thanks for the help.

The top is just plastic tabs, while the bottom side has the folded metal clips. I think there are four, and two were oriented vertically and two horizontally. That's why the bottom is in so snug. This is also why a 1lb shovel ain't gonna come loose.

My Jeep is at the stealership or I would take a pic, but here is a shot from the service manual. It comes out "firmly but easily" if that makes any sense.

Edit: I found these pix while browsing the forum. it looks like 5 plastic tabs on the top and 5 metal/plastic tabs on the bottom, with the center tab oriented vertically.
