Either way, that's an awesome mod. Come on guys, let's not argue about the height of a 3rd brake light and let's give a shout out to the fellow JKer that actually thought of, created, a great mod..... after all, that's what we're all here for, isn't it!?!?!?!?

I had mine cut off and moved it to the spider cut-out in my rear Poison Spyder Brawler bumper. Then I replaced the stock spare tire mount with a bigger mount to raise my new tire somewhat. I guess that's really illegal. I'm hoping it doesn't matter here in South Kakalaki. They're pretty lax down here. We don't even have state inspections any more. Too many good ole boys just selling stickers to their buddies.

I completed this mod yesterday..
Easy peasy...
Bedlined the tire carrier when I finished cutting the periscope off. The entire project took under 30 minutes, but I have air tools and the cut-off wheel and 90-degree grinder make taking the periscope off a five minute job.
The grommet is sandwiched between the wheel and carrier and once all was assembled the light was a little loose in the grommet, so I added a zip tie around the light to make it fit tighter in the grommet.
Only downside I see is that it's kind of dim..
