You should already be doorless, rain or shine, this way when the shine comes you can go naked

Just interested; what's the legality of driving doorless on-road in the 'States? Obviously mirror relocation bracets are required but apart from that, are there any other restrictions?

Where I am, it's OK for vehicles that came from the factory doorless or with soft doors (CJ Jeeps, Mini Mokes, etc) but not for the JK with it's full-framed steel doors, even though the owner's manual clearly states that they are removeable and do not have impact bars so offer no side impact protection, and also that there are big shiny stickers on the freedom panels stating that the doors & roof are purely for protection from the elements and should not be relied on for protection in an accident.

Here, we have different licensing/registration regulations for different states (in some states anything above a 2" lift and an increase of over 1" in tyre size over stock without engineering is illegal while in others you can cruise around with a 4" lift & 35s no problem) but the one regarding the doors is a Federal law concerned with new vehicle compliance. People still do it but you have to depend on the cops that see you being in a good mood. They even frown on tube doors as the regulations are more concerned with body parts being contained within the vehicle in the event of a collision rather than the issue of side impact protection (which I understand isn't an issue in the JK due to it's high sill height & full ladder frame both combining to offer protection).

Other than running without mirrors, I think the only legal issue is being pulled over for littering when the rear floor mats fly out when you hit highway speed.
