Uwharrie 27APR2014 slightly modded JKU lessons learned
Went to Uwharrie National Forest Sunday 27 APR 2014 with my slightly modded up Jeep and thought I'd toss up a few photos and observations.
Rig: 15" wheels with 33" Duratracs with a Teraflex Performance (Spring) leveling kit installed. Recon winch on a Rugged Ridge XHD bumper. TF quick disconnects on front sway bar were installed and disconnected.
I stuck to moderate trails only. This was mostly in part due to my tires rubbing on my fender at full articulation as you can see in the first photo. The high offset of the 15" Chaos wheels from Discount Tire Direct push the wheels out well past the fenders and made a significant grinding noise as the treads pushed past the plastic fender parts. The 2" springs weren't enough to push me off the fender. No bump stop extensions were installed. Nothing broke, no apparent wear to any parts but I didn't want to overdo it.
Since I will part with my Jeep for 3 years for an overseas tour I won't fix the problem (likely cut/replace the fender flares) any time soon.
All in all a great trip for the family, the mountain bike trails are really intense too. Hiking trails are very poorly marked, but the ORV trails are excellent!
