Are you talking about a welder that you can take in your jeep? Or just a portable welder? I have a Lincoln 305g in the back of my one ton, and I just ordered a Hobart Trek 180 for the jeep.

It has it own internal battery, and you can also charge it off 110v or a heavy duty 12 power inverter, its a wire feed machine.

Supposedly 2 12 volt batteries in series and a pair of jumper cables with some welding rods works decent enough to get you back on the trail. I hope to not have to try this though.

Check out the premier power welder. It is for using on the trail. My friend has one and has made many repairs on the trail.
