10 miles on the Beach
I spent the weekend on the outerbanks. Needless to say if I went down to the water it was in the jeep. I can say that the TCS really makes a difference in the sand. I'm pretty sure I could hear it when it kicked in. The back axle would start ringing about the time it started fish tailing. I did have the esp bas light stay on for a while after wheeling once. It didn't happen when I rembered to turn off the esp in 4 hi. Several times I came close to getting stuck. Just let some air out. None of those times did I get out and see one wheel headed to China, which is typical for open diffs. There where a couple of times when I was loosing momentum that I felt the TCS Finished me off. I felt like the braking action on the spinning wheel bogged down the engine. Nothing 4 lo couldn't fix, though. I drove into a section of wet pebbles that I was sure had me stuck. The jeeps front driver's side tire was down to the hub. Aired down some and backed out. I really don't think I could have gotten out of that one without the TCS keeping all the wheels moving. I do think that limited slip would have handled the situation better every time. It would have kept more wheels spinning without the parasitic loss from breaking the fast wheel. I am greatful to jeep for this addition to the JK.
