Default 2 door towing

Hey everyone, sorry if this has been talked about already but I am on my phone and can't find it. Anyway down to business. I have a 2012 JK sport with 373 gears and 33" tires. I am going to be moving to Texas in a month from Wyoming (approx 1023 miles). I was thinking about getting an enclosed trailer from Uhaul (4x8 or 5x8) to pack my stuff in and head down there (I don't have very much stuff, MAYBE 1000lbs). Question is would the two door be up to it? Anything I need to be extra careful about? Has anyone towed with a similar set up across country? Thanks in advance!

I would rent a similar trailer, load it to the weight you expect, and see how it handles it.

I did it with my 2012, on 32s with 3:21 and had no problems. I wasn't driving cross country but was doing interstates and traffic. I've towed a 21 ft aluminum bass boat on interstates no problem.

If you have a soft top uhaul might not rent to you. It's in their rules, but at my place they didn't know or care I guess.

DON'T DO IT!

I mean move. Why would you leave Wyoming? Don't go unless you have to. visit fine, move no.

if you do go. good luck. Wyoming will miss you and your fine Jeep.

I've never gone cross country towing, but back when I had stock gearing (08 2dr x with 35" tires) I towed a trailer all the time for trips of 5+ hours... Never had a problem.

The jeep handled fine, however the long up-hill stretches would take a lot of work.

Not sure if any of this helps, but that's my input

I've run all over the US in mine 3:73 and 35's pulled both of my Harley's and tools to ND from FL last year no issues but I have a standard transmission.

On the uhaul thing yea they will deny a soft top but if you rent it wit another truck then put it on the jeep and go. Just make sure your personal insurance will cover you as uhauls won't if you pull with a deferent vehicle.

Enjoy the drive!

I certainly haven't hauled cross country, but used to pull a loaded enclosed 5x8" pretty often. I'd estimate it was up towards the 2,000lb load limit for the 2dr JK's. The JK did just fine. Just slower to get going and longer stopping distances. (backing a trailer up with the 2dr JK is cake )

It'll add some time to your trip, but your JK should do a-ok.

If I can offer any other advice, it would be to make sure you use a proper sized drop shank so that your trailer is slightly nose-down when properly loaded. If you're nose high, or too far nose-down, it'll make your ride pretty miserable. (be mindful of how the trailer is loaded too like, 60% front, 40% rear). You may already be familiar with this stuff.

I'm not familiar with towing at all. This will be my first experience towing. Thanks everyone for all the info!
