Default 2009 Towing limit?

Does anyone know whether the new sway control feature on the 2009 Wrangler towing package will increase the towing capacity?

On the official website, it appears to still be rated for 3500lbs (Unlimited w/ tow package). Hopefully it is updated for 2009.

Why is the Liberty's towing capacity 1500 pounds more than the 4-door JK's? Yes, the 3.7L is more powerful than the 3.8L, but not THAT much. Could it be the brakes?

I just drove through the mountains. I couldn't imagine our Rubi Unlimited towing anything but itself over those huge hills. IMO it's towing capacity will improve when they improve the engine.

I had to constantly gear down from 6 to 5th and sometimes down to 4th to get my speed back up. It is not an easy drive. I'm sure it will tow 3500 lbs but I'm also sure the driver will be going out of his/her tree coping with that engine rolling up hill.

If that hemi engine were any cheaper we'd already have it. It is just so difficult gettig used to a jeep with high end torque vs low end torque.

On another forum, a Jeep engineer's response to this question was "engine cooling". He said the aerodynamics of the Liberty, and the other platforms, allows more air to flow through the radiator. The Wrangler just doesn't cool well enough to pull a heavier load under some conditions.
