2010 Navigation Map Update

that's a bad time to realize that.
I got a new gps with free 2010 map updates from wally world for 40 bucks. regular map updates for that one are more than the unit costs, so in a couple years I'll just get another new one and throw that one in my truck. if someone steals it, I won't care much.

The amount it cost them to send all of us these disks is probably why they need to charge so much for the activation code. How about either making it downloadable or only sending it when you buy it... if it was 50 bucks I would do it but 200... I could buy a brand new GPS with MANY more features than the MyGig navigation for half that.

No they did not bill me for it. There is an activation code for $199 if I choose to...which I opt not to
Thanks for the waste of materials Mopar - smart marketing folks you got over there.

Dear Mopar, Jeep drivers are not stupid and we have a large and interactive community. When I saw this in the mail, I thought, "Hmmm, that's strange. I didn't order this and I know the update for the myGig is $200. What's the catch? Naturally, I log onto JK-forum to see what's going on. I have to pay $200 for an update you already sent me? Ridiculous. Mopar, how much did you pay to manufacture all these discs and ship them out? If I didn't know to check here first, I would have loaded it, and then when I didn't want to pay $200 for a code, have to reload the old software. Then I'd be even more pissed.
There's no way I'd pay $200 for new map data. The roads around here don't change much anyway. I'd pay $50 every 2 years.
This is a nice way for Mopar to say FU to their customers.
Off my soapbox.

It's not Garmin, I think Navteq is the company that makes the mapping software. There are Mygig operating software upgrades included with this which would probably be from Chrysler.
2011's use Garmin mapping software.

Navteq Map Update... Very Questionable
I have never been able to get Navteq to tell me what is included in the updates, specifically whether there are updates for my area of Georgia. Now they send this "2010 Navigation Map Update", unsolicited, and want me to pay $200 for it. It's still too much in my opinion and I question how current the maps are.
If you look at the configuration file on the disk, there is an entry:
description="North American database package including USA and CAN (Q2/2009)."
This does not give me a high level of confidence that these are current maps at all.
UPDATE: After uncompressing one of the iso files, I see all the POI updates are also dated Q2/2009.
