2011 Rear Axle is a Dana 44
Hi,
I read this forum a lot but this is my first post.
There has been a lot of speculation, fret and worry, etc about the 2011 Wrangler, especially the axle issue. But those who are worrying about the rear axle situation look at this link ( http://www.jeepnewsnow.com/modules/n...p?storyid=3265 ) and look at the "2011 Fleet Brochure" link you'll see Jeep info about features, colors (yes White continues on) and more. Also the 2011 Wrangler interior spy shots section on Alpar.com has a mention there about the rear axle being a Dana 44 too.
Thanks,
B.S.

I believe it is the non-Rubi axle that is changing...and causing concern? Tom R

Tom,
Yeah, I'm thinking earlier speculation was incorrect. But we'll see when the new Wrangler hits the streets. But it looks like the '11 changes are just minor cosmetic, which is what has been done typically by Jeep for some time now. Big changes usually happen at about 6 to 7 year intervals....so the next time changes will probably be quite big.
But for me if the Dana 44 was not on the non-rubi's I'd be disappointed but I do know that just about any durable axle would meet my needs. I'm not an extreme off road rock climber, etc. I just want to get through some rough stuff to get to my favorite camping and fishing spots with the roof off and me shifting my tranny manually (the proper Jeep way
) and enjoying my day.
I, like you, am ready for another Jeep and am willing to wait just a tad longer to see what is going to happen under the hood. I'll only buy a two door (purist here) and the current V6 is fine for the two door, but there's a part of me that is really hoping for a tough little 4 cylinder diesel motor.....so I'll give it another year if need be. But if nothing appears for '12 I'll go with the 202 hp V6.
Thanks,
B.S.
