2011 trade value
Appraisal by a dealership/broker will be your best bet, unfortunately. You can get a decent estimate by using the 2010 information with your current mileage and vehicle options -- this only really works if there isn't a big change between 2010 and 2011. If you do this, the numbers will be a low. For what it is worth, NADA and KBB are only good for an estimate on trade-in value / private party sale. Dealers go off of wholesale values (what it would cost them to get a similar vehicle through auction/wholesale) and likelihood of moving your vehicle in a certain timeframe contingent on location, vehicle type, and observed vehicle turnover. It's because of this that people feel "low-balled" when the dealer offers them $15k on a vehicle that NADA or KBB says is worth $20k.
We just came back from a trip to NC mountauns and I hate the power and transmission. I pull
a 16' trailer with about 2000-2500lbs. and I don't know what to expect when we take off on
our 1st trip with our four wheelers on the trailer. I've had the hot oil sign one time just running
up I-77 which doesn't have much incline. Wasn't towing, just driving. I love the jeep but just
wonder if 2012 would suit me better. Thought about regearing to 4.56 but just
don't know what to do.

I got 25K trade in fro my 2011 that had 9k miles on it. Traded it on Labor day for my '12 Dozer. My '11 JKU was a Sport and the only options it had was Auto Trans and tow package. The '12 I picked up is also a Sport, has Auto, Connectivity group and tow packing, and max trailer package. I do not do any towing, but the dealer I got mine from orders all of their Jeeps with both tow and trailer package.

On the trade-in... anticipate losing some money. The best way to figure out what your vehicle is worth is to talk to a few dealers, see what they are willing to offer, and determine if it seems fair for what you want to do. If not, pit them against each other and maximize your trade-in value. At this point, that's probably the best path if you are Hell bent on "upgrading" to a 2012.
Just today I was offered 19,800 for my 2011 2 door Sport toward a 2012 JKU Sport. My car has S package, side steps, hardtop and 7,300 miles and is Cherry Red. Good deal? I could likely get couple of grand more if I sell privately but also need to weigh the $1,200 sales tax advantage of trading in and hassle of selling.
