Default 2012 Auto Trans overdrive

Wondering if anyone knows whether there is an overdrive over-ride on the new auto transmission. On my '07, there was an O/D off button near the shifter. Definitely was needed when doing highway driving in mountainous areas or when towing. Don't see a way to turn off overdrive on the '12 auto.

overdrive disable stops the trans going into 4th on my 08...
if i'm already in fourth the only gears i can select manually are first and second...
i can't drop it into third... i use the O/D off button a lot.

On the '12 with the 5-speed auto, would manually shifting to 4th essentially have the same effect as disabling O/D on the old trans? On the 4-speed auto, did disabling O/D essentially just shift down to 3rd?

yep...on the 4speed auto it shifts down to third...
i would normally disable the O/D in first or second...
and then if i get to third and the time is right...
i pop the button so i can then slip into fourth...

edit...having said that...
i think if O/D is disabled at the start...
the trans will rev out longer in the first 3 gears...
seems like that in mine anyhoo.

I tested this out tonight. If you downshift to 4 with the "autostick" it will stay out of overdrive but shift automatically like normal through 3, 2, 1. I started and stopped through several traffic lights and got up to 55 in between. So it seems that the "gear" you select is the highest it will go into but still downshifted as necessary.

This all makes me wonder if it will work to start in a higher gear in low range??? Seems it could be useful sometimes when in low to pick a higher gear to control wheel spin... Ill have to test that later. Darn computers!
