Default 2012 ha!!!!!

I'm all for the new motor and more horse power but at what cost? REDLINE!!!!

Does anyone see an issue with the horse power specs.... Look at the RPMs it takes to make the 285HP

I don't know about you guys but I shift well before 6000 RPMs.

Thats fine, but is it making more or less than we currently are making at our shifting speeds, I would assume it is.

I'm still not sold 100% on that motor, I don't honestly think its been around long enough to really give us an idea on how reliable it is.

Ya, reliability is huge. It would suck breaking down due to an un fixable motor failure 25 miles out in the middle of a trail.

I have heard that they use this motor in other applications over seas and it's been good, but who really knows untill we all get some miles on it.

I really have no complaints on my motor I check my oil regularly, no leaks. Motor noise is relative in my opinion. Is it louder than my 2008 Jetta, god yes. Louder than my old XJ, not in any conceivable way, but I am talking about a new vehicle, less than a month old.

Maybe my opinion will change, but as it stands it does every thing I want it to do, and excels at it. The only last test is a decent off road trail, I think I may hit big rock in Maysville KY this weekend, I'll have to check their requirements for using the park. They may require a buddy system.

Well we know for sure that it makes 208 horsepower at 4200 rpm. The 3.8 peaks at 205hp @ 5200rpm. Also take into consideration that the new motor makes at least 234 ft.lb. of torque starting @ 1600rpm. The 3.8 peaks at 240 ft.lb. @ 4000rpm.

Gives you an idea of the power characteristics of the two. The Pentastar out grunts the 3.8 by a fair amount down low and blows it away under hard acceleration.

Yep, the issue I see is that you are cherry picking the highs, not the averages, nor are you comparing the curves.
Area under the torque curve is what's important for our jeeps (and the proper gearing to take advantage of it), not individual points on the curve.

Thank you gentlemen. There apparently are a few people on this board who do know a thing or two what makes an engine good. The Pentastar is now for the second year on the list of Ward's 10 Best Engines.

The Penstar has been already put in several other vehicals. It is a far superior engine than the 3.8 in pretty much every single category. The OP is simply jealous and wanted to make up a reason to bitch.... something my ex gf use to do too.

Horsepower makes for great advertising, but torque is what moves you. The new engine makes more torque and lower down in the rpm range.
