Default 2012 Pentastar - not the torque we had hoped for....

Edmunds just posted their 2011 Dodge Durango preview drive test. From the article:

"She's Not So Quick
We end up working our 2011 Dodge Durango's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 pretty hard on our scenic drive. Low-end torque is not a strong suit of this 290-horsepower engine...."

Still waiting for the ethereal Fiat Diesel.....

Of course, in Chrysler's defense, they may significantly tweak the version of the Pentastar going into the Wrangler, adding direct injection, etc., that could change this in a substantial way.

Well hopefully they would retune it like ford did with the 5.0 mustang engine in the F150. Peak power isn't as high but the low end is better.

I doubt it, this is Chrysler we're talking about and retuning would mean more cost. Ultimately it will be up to us, the owners, to optimize the engine.

X2. You will get the same engine as the one already tested. Thats why ill stay with my 3.8, been around for a long time, easy to work on. New engines = New troubles

A review on the Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Penstar didn't get great reviews either. Said the same thing about the torque and didn't feel like it had 280 horses under it.

Remember the golden rule.....

"There's no Replacement for Displacement."

It sounds as though Chrysler didn't match their gears and transmissions with their new engine. The vehicle can't benefit from added power if it isn't geared to operate in the engine's power band. Sounds like a stick would be the way to go for the next Jeep, so the driver can rev high and get that power.

Time to learn the NEW golden rule:

"There is no replacement for displacement - except for modern turbo and direct injection a la Ford Ecoboost or modern turbodiesel technology"

I like the new rule better..
