Default 2012 Wrangler Unlimited

I have recently ordered a 2012 Rubicon, and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. A disturbing trend has been brought to my attention. It seems the JKs have been known to catch on fire. I have done some research and it looks as though the problem exists with 2010 and earlier models. Has Chrysler/Jeep fixed this problem?

Thank you.

If you have an open gas container in your jeep and you toss a cigarette butt onto it, it has been known that the jeep will catch on fire.

Other than this, I have not heard of anything.

I'm actually surprised that people haven't heard of this. It's, like, a "thing" with 3.8 JKs with automatic transmissions. That's why I said "oh goody" earlier. This topic has been discussed a lot.

No idea if it's going to be a problem on 3.6s. I suspect it won't since the engine and trans are new, but with Jeep, who knows?

That's what I was getting at. I'm thinking they may have changed things with the new engine. Mine will also be a 6-speed.

I think the issue was with auto transmissions... Obviously time will tell for sure, but this engine has been in 2011 model year vehicles with no fires, and all Autos now come with a transmission cooler, so everything should be cool (so to speak)!

There are write ups on this. The main complaint is the 3.8 needs a tranny cooler. Overheated Trans fluid gest on the engine and catches fire. Search 'burning jeep' or 'watch my jeep burn' on Youtube and you'll see for yourself.

2012's are also catching fire:

You know... I have noticed how hot my engine bay feels up to 3-4 hours after parking it and just chalked it up to me parking in a garage...
