I should be picking-up my new 2013 JKUR in January 2013. The first mod that I have planned is replacing all 5 tires (in stock 255 75 17 or as close as I can get) because 90% of my driving will be on decent roads. Why did I get a Rubicon?.....because that is what I want.

I have narrowed-down tire choices based on research of:

-Handling

-Durability/Wear

-Fuel Economy

-Off-Road Capability

-Made in U.S.A. (when possible)

I am doing a Poll to help narrow it down further. Please post why you love or hate these tires:


GOODYEAR WRANGLER SILENTARMOR (255 75 17)

MICHELIN LTX A/T2 (265 70 17)

BF GOODRICH ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO (265 70 17)

COOPER DISCOVERER A/T3 (255 75 17)

Any all terrain tire will do fine i know the falcon wild peaks do pretty good
My dads friend has them on his yota and he has gone places but not as far as my jeep but they are really good tired from what i hear im getting a set for my dads birthday for his yota

 

I am pretty set on one of the 4 tire models in the Poll. The only other that I am strongly considering is the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A (265 70 17), because reviews have been very good and the price is GREAT at $877.95 for 5 tires (delivered) from TireRack, or $941.99 (out-the-door/installed) at Discount Tire Direct.

 

So you would be replacing stock mud tires with all terrains? Any of those should be fine, I think it comes down to the tread pattern you like. Out of your list I'd go with silent armors. Personally, I have Duratracs on my JKU and my Ram 3500. Great tires.

 

Exactly, replacing the OEM Mud Tires for All-Terrains with good road manners. Thanks for the vote, I am partial to the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor as well; pretty sure that Goodyear is still a U.S. Company with Made in U.S.A. tires as well, Cooper may be the only other one, though I know many Michelin and Pirelli tires are Made in U.S.A., though the companies are foreign-owned.

Unfortunately, the SilentArmors are also one of the most expensive.

 

The extra price for the silent armor pays for itself in less flat repair issues, quieter ride and tread life.

I'd vote them since you are opting out of nittos and likely not holding tons of interest in hankook or any other brands I've had better luck with. If the price is too much I'd suggest coopers.

 

I have run all brands listed here on my work truck at various times over the years and have been most pleased with the Cooper Discovery ATR/3's, better performance, durability, and longer tread life. Not to mention better price. Just my to cents...

 

OK, I have just about lost my mind debating what All Terrain tires to put on my recently delivered 2013 JKUR. My dealership is mounting/balancing the new tires for $98.00, and I intend to sell 5 the OEM BF Goodrich Mud Terrains here or on Craigslist.

I have scraped the idea of BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains in 265 70 17 because the reviews that I read say they wear poorly. I was about to pull the trigger on Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors in stock 255 75 17, but they just seem overpriced; tire prices seem to keep going up every year?

I have never been a fan of Firestone, but the Destination A/T gets great reviews; comparable or better reviews than the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, and better overall handling surveys on TireRack, and better still, they are cheaper than the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain AT.

5 x Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 255 75 17 Made in Canada = $1,030.90 (delivered, after mail-in $80 rebate)

5 x Firestone Destination A/T 255 75 17 Made in U.S.A. = $880.90 (delivered)

So I save $150.00 for what actually appears to be a better All Terrain tire based on reviews, road-tests, and surveys.

I have only been able to find a few comments on here about the Firestone Destination A/Ts; all good. What do you guys think?

 

I like my cooper at/3's , if possible shop around for mounting. At the the local co-op where I go, the mounting balancing and road hazard is free, you just pay for the tires, sometimes cooper have rebates too

 

I have owned Cooper Discover ATR (2003 Chevy Duramax) and Cooper CS4 Touring (2008 Subaru Outback). The Discovers were great and had plenty of tread even after 50,000 miles. The CS4 Tourings handled well, but wore terribly, and had to be replaced several times. I damn near swore off Cooper after that experience because they did not want to stand behind their warranty.

I know that Cooper is still an American owned company that produces many of its tires in the U.S.A., but I am having trouble giving them a second chance based on the last set of CS4s getting shredded (2 tires replaced, and one one they should have replaced in 15,000 miles).

It looks like I will likely get the Firestone Destination ATs (TireRack). On Discount Tire Direct, I am looking at Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, Cooper AT3s and Nitto Terra Grapplers (Japanese owned, maybe Made in U.S.A.).

I am actually leaning towards the Nitto Terra Grapplers based on all of the great reviews on the various Jeep/JK websites. The price is definitely right at $775.00 for 5 tires!
