3 chipped teeth on spider gear
Two weeks ago i was changing the oil in my diffs.Being at 80 000 km i decided to remove the covers to have a look and check how thing were going. To my surprise what did i find. One of my rear spider gears has 3 teeth that are chipped. So i decide to take it in to the dealer to have it checked since it is still under powertrain warranty. To my surprise again ,Chrysler Canada has a new policy.I don't know if it only applies to Jeeps but now the dealer has to take a picture of the part that is to be claimed under warranty and send it to them for approval. That being said, one week later i call the dealer for news about the claim and this is what i get for an answer. That gears do not chip under normal wear, that a piece of metal must have gone thru the gears and that abuse is not covered under warranty. Here's the funny thing,in the same week we opened up a friend diff and he has the exact same thing happen to his rear diff. Coïncidence?Chrysler told the dealer to take the diff appart ,take more pictures( of the outside of the Jeep ????)On that policy of pictures ,two of my friends have had the same experience, one for a whole in her top the other for the zipper on the back window and they had pictures taken of the whole Jeep???? Is Chrysler trying to create a data base of all the modified Jeeps. For my gears i will probably end up having to put in a locker as it will be cheaper than having new gears installed and shimmed.Do any of you have had something similar ?
it seem to be pretty common from what I hear in my area of the world!!!
I have a 2011 so I will keep a eye on this very closely
is there anybody else on here that had any probleme with their DIFF ?
and if yes what was the issue ?

The reason they are wanting pics of the outside is to see if your jeep is modded. If you have bigger tires they will probably say that the chipped teeth are due to the added strain of the bigger tire. I was told by a friend that works at the dealership that anyone that has a lifetime warranty would loose it if any mods were done cause they were wanting all lifetime warranties gone. This sucks because even if a dealership was/is mod friendly, it will not matter now that pics have to be sent into Chrysler for their approval. Once chrysler sees a modded jeep it's flagged and no more warranty work will be done.
