3rd or spare key, 2008 JK
I just received a spare key for less than $20 and I can program it myself. The dealership wants $50 for the key and $30 to program it. For it to work you need 2 good operational keys. You get the spare key (it looks identical to my key w/o the Jeep name) in the mail, take it to the local key cutting location, locksmith/hardware store etc have it cut to match yours and follow the programming directions using the car's ignition and the easy to follow directions. I haven't done it yet as I need to have it cut first. I got it from www.remotesandkeys.com
For my 2009, the manual says that up to eight keys can be programmed to the Sentry Key system (page 17) and remote-keyless-entry system (page 22). You can do it yourself if you have at least two valid keys already, else you gotta go see the dealer and pay your $$$.
Man that s*cks for 2007 owners.
