Seeing that there won't be much difference in the engines, I'd rather take one now than wish I had one. If DC was to anounce droppin a HEMI, well then, now that's a different game!:p :p
The current Jk engine option is the 3.8-L V-6. This engine is weak in the Liberty and that Jeep is lighter than the 4-door JK. The 4.7 liter V-8 looks like is should fit the JK engine space, it is of the same engine family, and maybe we will get it when owners express the desire for more power.
However the best option would be for DCX to stroke the 4.7-L. The 3.8-L has the same bore as the 4.7-L, 3.66 inches. The stoke is longer in the V-6, 3.57 inches verses 3.4 inches for the 4.7L. Since most of the engineering is done whipping out a V-8 crank with the 3.57 inch stroke shouldn't be that hard, the rods and the pistons from the V-6 should be a direct swap over. The result would be a 4.9-liter V-8.
We can only hope and dream that with will come to pass before the end of the decade.

Putting the 4.7 is probably the best option if you consider that they will have to change many (if not all) parts of the drivtrain. Dana 44 won't survive 345Hp but maybe the 235Hp of the 4.7l. As for the trans, they alredy have a good package in the Grand so why look elsewhere? As for me, the Hemi is too much but I'm ready too sell my not yet receive 2007 for a new one with the 4.7l and 5 speed auto. Do someone listen at DC!!!!??

Sorry, the Liberty uses a 3.7L V6 that is an entirely different engine than the 3.8 in the JK. And, after putting 76,000 miles on the 3.7 in a Liberty, I don't think I would call it weak, unless you're comparing it to a V8.

But, looking under the hood, there is so much room under there that I wouldn't doubt you could drop a V8 in there. HEMI anyone?
