Default 4wd question...

Just wondering if it is normal for my Jeep to shake and almost shudder whenever I am driving slowing in 4wd and making a turn (i.e. driving into a parking space). Could it be because it's in 4wd high instead of 4wd low? Thanks in advance.

You shouldnt be using the 4wd on dry pavement, it is Not designed to be used that way. It should only be used when you are on slippery surfaces. There is a rather lengthy thread here about all the reasons why, without going into all of that, you can do ALOT of damage to your drivetrain doing so. I will try to find that thread.

Thanks, but this actually this occurs when I drive on slippery surfaces (here in Alberta our parking stalls are often not plowed, and are icy and snowy).

When the 4wd is engaged, all your wheels are turning at the same speed. When you go around a turn, the outside wheel has to travel much further than the inner one. Since the axles are tied together, On slow tight turns, this causes the tires to hop and the drivetrain to buck. It will cause damage.

not having luck finding that thread yet. If anyone knows where it is offhand, please chime in.

Thank you very much. The link, as well as your explanation, helped me understand exactly what is happening.

If you think it jerks bad then, you should try something with a locker or a SPOOL in the front! LMAO
