Default 5 hour drive

Heading to Kentucky and thought about going doorless the whole way. Its about 5-6 hours drive time. Good or bad idea?

The only thing I have to add to this thread is:
CHAPSTICK! CHAPSTICK! CHAPSTICK!
The wind burn you'll get from a long topless/doorless drive is insane.

Drive all the time doorless. Even on hot days I use the AC on the vent and point it to my head and body. Cools me off just enough. I use the heat the same way. I even put a hose on one of the vents and put it under my coat to warm me up on the cold early morning drive. You would be surprised what you can think of to make things work to your advantage.

From my experience, as long as you keep moving, for the most part the cabin should stay fairly dry (some rain will inevitably get in) in a rain storm. That is with doors off and top on. If its a huge storm then just pull over at an overpass and relax for a few minutes until it passes.

Ive done a 4 hour trip before but nothing longer. In my TJ I was on my way home from a 2 hour beach trip and I saw the black clouds rolling in at 10 minutes from my house. I downshifted and nailed it to outrun the storm. I made it to my carport with seconds to spare.

I say go for it as long as you can deal with the heat. Make sure to keep plenty of water with you to stay hydrated. I have a case in the back just in case. Warm/hot water is better than no water. If you can, pack a cooler.

P.S. WOOHOO 100th post!

I once drove from the Dakotas to TX and back completely topless. It was an awesome trip and I would do it again. Have fun with your Jeep!!!

Default I would recomend...

... Doing it. Wrap arounds are mandatory, as is lip balm and sometimes a bandana or baklava like the bikers and ATV riders wear.

Check it out: your first LONG doorless trip in a Jeep is like your first LONG road trip on a bike-

I've made several 3-4hr trips and I really enjoy it. he crosswinds can be hard on my ears though. I've started wearing my headphones/iPod when I'm going very far.

The longest I've gone without doors was an hour, it wasn't bad by any means, but driving on north-east highways is a little nerve-racking without the doors on simply for the fact that there are some douche drivers here and my mirrors don't offer the best view of behind. I don't seem to feel the same way on a motorcycle though with less structural protection around me.
