Default 6 speed question

Does anyone else ever find themselves just crusing along doing 70 in 5th grear with a 6 speed? I cant afford to re-gear and im figuring crusing at 70 wit the RPMS @ about 2300 isnt going to hurt anything...?

It won't hurt. It's effectively the same while cruising. I ran my TJ for a long time without ever using 5th.

sometimes I Cruse at 70 in 4th..it's more comfortable! and I have 3.21 gears so if there's any wind I pretty much can't use 6th anyways! The only thing you're gonna hurt is your wallet by getting a little less mpg, but it is nice to have the power there when you want it.
I consider my transmission a 4 speed with 2 overdrives!

I do it all the time. 6th gear is useless with the 3:21s as you need to be up in the 2500 - 3000 rpm range for it to be effective on the highway. I run 70 mph on the highway in 5th which still runs the jeep in the ECO range.

Actually I find that I rarely use 5th gear. Most of the time I go right from 4th to 6th and vice versa when I downshift. But for me I'm running 4:88s with 37's and at 70mph I'm right around 2600rpms. Pulls like a champ in 6th so most of the time if downshifting is needed I go right past 5th to 4th.

I hardly use 5th, I almost always go from 4th to 6th as well.

thanks for the replies. was just curious as well.. 3.21s just cant turn 35's. even a slight wind pushes me backwards.

I never had any problems using 6th in 08 X with 3.21 gearing, my 10 rubi with 4.10's is always in 6th, so sometimes you have to downshift for some hills but that is ok.

it doesnt matter what size of a hill honestly, it can be a 170 degree angled hill and ill slowly watch my rpms drop, and eventually lug. Im starting to wonder if perhaps my clutch might be slipping slightly. Sometimes when shifting into a higher gear the engagement seems delay.. its engaged but not accelerating and then suddenly it starts pulling. This is my first wrangler every with a 6 speed.. so bare with me!
