As somebody mentioned earlier, the current 8 speed is very smooth. You have to be paying very close attention in order to feel it shift. I'd definitely consider an 8 speed wrangler, especially since mines a DD

Prolly depends on who makes the transmission will be the factor.

If it's going to come with an 8 speed auto I wonder what gears are in the axles?

Good question... i still would like Cryslar to spend the money elsewhere like a better steering system upfront.

Wear out way to quickly. Should be more beefier.

I think the 8 speed, if done correctly, could be awesome. I hope that they aren't taking all of the weight savings from the new body and all that aluminum jazz, and gobbling it all up with crazy heavy transmissions. I could be wrong but as far as I know more gears = bigger transmission = more weight.

I'll keep my current wrangler forever, but if I was going to get a new one it would be a manual. That said, I would hope they would space out the gear ratios a bit. At least for the Rubicon. In the current rendition the transmission has to work across the entire line, which to me is a problem. While I'm sure a Jeep with 3.21 axel gears doesn't need any ratios higher than 6th, one with 4.10's is screaming when you take down the interstates in Texas with the 75 mph speed limit. I guess getting bigger tires will help, but still. I like my first gear as low as possible, and going to bigger tires will effectively make first a higher ratio. I guess the point of my ramble is that I feel first should be shorter, and 6th should be taller. The being said, I really hope they don't add to the number of gears in the manual. 8 for an auto is ok, 8 in a manual would make my arms fall off!

Happy Jeeping.
