Default Accident

Driving home last night with the girlfriend around 11:20pm when a guy decided to turn across the intersection I was entering. I had right of way and the green light. I do not know if he was impaired or what have you, but he suffered a head injury as a result of the collision. I reacted quickly, thankfully, and stood on my breaks- was traveling 30-35mph so I am not sure how fast I was traveling at the time of impact. No air bags deployed, but it was certainly a crunch. My front end dipped (I assume due to the hard breaking) and my bumper made contact with his Camry's wheel at my frame-rail. My bumper ended up inside his engine compartment and his axel was snapped. Pretty frightening. The other driver was clearly at fault and the responding police cited him.

As for the condition/performance of the wrangler: I could not be happier. I managed to limp it home after the police released me, but in the mile it took to get there the traction control began auto-breaking and then all sorts of dash lights began flipping on. I curbed it and threw it in 3rd gear until I can get it towed tomorrow. The steering wheel is about 90 degrees off and there was a distinct crunch/snap sound when turning right- so I assume something is fairly wrong with the column or assembly.

Bottom line- glad everyone was ok! Jeeps can be fixed. Pics will be up when I get a chance.

-Mike

Good to hear. The jeep can be replaced but you cannot. Call your insurance company and let them know what happened. They will get involved with the guy's insurance company for you.

Thanks guys. Had to move it across the street a little while ago. Dash looks like a Christmas tree. Everyone that's seen the jeep is astonished at how well it held up and how little damage it seemingly has sustained. If I were in my old TJ or a sedan it certainly would have been a different story.

Default Wife likes the Camry

My wife likes the Camry, but maybe not after what you've done to it.
It's time to buy her a new car soon and she's going back and forth on
a Jeep or car.

We all have those blank out moments where we aren't thinking right, so
Jeep has been the safest vehicle I've owned.

I've been air born at 55 mph and came down safe in a turn coming down
from a hill/mountain (Big Bear).

So thankful and God Bless

Hey sorry to hear about your Jeep. Glad to know everyone is okay. Did it happen on the main drag, 50 if I remember correctly. Used to live down the street in Chantilly. Anyhow hope the Jeep can be repaired.

It was a 2000 Camry according to the police report. I was shocked that his airbags did not go off considering the impact. I certainly will think twice about sedans now to be honest. I'm content to be in the bigger vehicle...

I was on Monroe street in Herndon. Small 4 lane stretch with a 35mph limit through suburbia. If I had been on 50 it would have been a scary collision as the limit is 55mph I believe.

I'll run a mini blog here regarding the insurance- I understand things differ between providers, level of mods, etc. so if anything my experience could help someone else out if they are in similarly unfortunate circumstances.

Again, thanks for the well wishes! I'll have pics up tomorrow. The computer was not behing nice today.
