accused of an h3
My 2 dr has never been insulted with the H word, but then again a 2 dr doesn't look like a Hummer. In my mind jeep copied hummer when they brought the 4dr to market, they did a pretty good job esp on the saharas. They definitly have a resemblence to a hummer although better than a hummer. Not so keen on the 4dr's but some day I may just have to eat some crow and get one unless they come out with a pick up first.

Ok... chrome has been around a while.. but I see some seriously glitzy JKs.. And it's been a REALLY good move for them. They have a market that no one in the jeep community has seen coming.. soccer moms. And last year I think I heard that jeep is killing all of the other manufacturers in sales and profits. They're in higher demand than EVER. Frankly.. the 4 dr jeep DOES look a lot like a hummer... and after test driving a couple.. the inside is sorta like one too... especially on the '11s
Not that there is anything wrong with that... If you're insulted, you need an ego check. It's just an automobile... and the Hummer (humvee) is a badass little transport.. I have NO respect for H2s.... but that's just me.. I also think the H3 is a good PLATFORM for a quite capable off roading machine... but that's not what the factory is selling... they're selling a tough - looking - mini-van... with a crappy version of 4wd. but with relatively good off road SPECIFICATIONS.
Where did Hummer REALLY succeed? Marketing... just as Jeep used its military heritage to claim the throne of "best off road vehicle" Hummer did the same thing.. but better. Suddenly to common folk, the hummer is the "Ultimate." and among the youth, its even more of a household name than 'jeep'... afterall... what do they drive in their video games? (until black ops)
Hummer explained to jeep that there IS a market for an offroad capable machine that seats 4 adults, and more luxuries. It also told them that 99% of people will never complain about crappy offroading ability... luxuries sell these vehicles.. not abilitys. Appearance is EVERYTHING.
So what did Jeep do? They beat hummer at their own game. They built a hummer with all of the luxury (minus tv screens in the seats
) that was also REALLY able to offroad.. and even rock crawl a bit. They did it so well that Hummer is out of business.. But they never did conquor the marketing angle.. Most people don't know hummer is gone.. and most people think a big black box with wheels is a hummer. I think the quickest way to fix it is fast back tops... THEN if they accuse you of driving a hummer... they're just stupid.

So.. yeah.. I get the 'hummer' comment all the time... I jokingly tell my friends "If I wanted a hummer, I would have asked your mom." which is just cause for BS'n.. And everyone else I say "Thank you. :}" because it really doesn't matter what they think.. they're obviously wrong about a lot of things. LOL
Yes- I have had it a couple of times as well. A neighbor saw me just after it was waxed and commented on how nice it was- AND them asked if it was a "little Hummer"
I just smilled and said "No this is the real thing....

I get Hummer comments all the time. It really bugs me, but I started thinking..... at least they noticed the vehicle. Nobody ever goes up to someone driving a Hyundai and says "hey, I like your Hyundai".
It is funny how kids think Hummers are awesome. Then you take them out wheelin' and ask them "how many Hummers do you see out here on this trail"? They look around and realize that it's all Jeeps.
I try to politely correct people like co-workers who think it's a compliment to call it a Hummer. I remind them that this is a Jeep, and Jeep guys consider it an insult to call it a Hummer. Jeeps are capable of just about anything off-road. The only thing Hummers are just capable of is getting your kids to soccer practice at 10 miles to the gallon.
