am i unlucky?
my jeep recently went into the shop...with a blown torque converter...the mechanic had to flush my transmission "20 times." no is this normal? i am running 35s....dont run it hard...not alot of hills here in georgia...whats going on? should i expect more problems in the future?
The TC can fail, but having to flush your transmission 20x seems like a lot of extra work. Depending on how it failed, if the fins inside the converter shattered then there will be small pieces spread in your trans (and cooler, does the auto have a trans cooler?). It would almost be better to ask him to clean the trans out of the jeep, instead of constantly running fresh fluid through it to flush the trans.
If it did shatter the fins and he is a competent mechanic that tranny should come out of the vehicle and get a complete teardown/wash/rebuild. That is the only way to ensure all the metal is out and that nothing else was damaged. Flushing it, no matter how many times is a shortcut that will cost you $$$ in the end.
