Default Another odd noise

So while on the topic of noises, I have another one that I would like to see if anyone else has.

When starting off in first from a stop I get a kind of grumbly "diesely" noise from somewhere in the front part of the drivetrain. It is hard to describe other than it sounds like a diesel engine. It is only for a second or two then goes away as I accelerate through first and then clutch into second.

It almost sounds as if I am not giving her enough RPM's when letting out the clutch in 1st.

Has anyone else noticed this and what RPM are most of you in when starting from a stop with the 6 speed?

Got me with this one Jets. I would guess that you're right - you might be logging the engine in 1st, causing the low rumble. I tend to go the other way in 1st, with too many RPMs, causing a quick acceleration. I even stalled it a few time the first few days of ownership - maybe I'm overcompensating now. Tomorrow I'll see if I can get a rumble out of it.

Bad gas...too much ethanol in the mix, maybe? What's your mpg? Below 17 avg mpg.

I always get that deisel noise from stick shift cars when i first get it em for a drive... like if i get in a friends car, or the first time i drove a JK. i was coming from a TJ with 300 HP and that verable inline 4.0 liter motor... that thing didnt need any gas when letting off in first... even with one foot on the brake i'd let out on the clutch and it had so much torque its still pulled away smooth. Anyway, my point is that the JK gets it torque and power in higher rpms.. just trying giving her a lil more gas as you let the clutch up and that should to the trick. Or, take another 6 spd JK for a test drive and see if it does it, if so, its just you getting used to the JK, if not, you might need to visit your local stealership.

Good luck

I have an automatic JK,4 months old and it also makes that noise. It happens when I start the vehicle for the time. Just for a couple of seconds like you said. But I've also noticed that it never makes the sound the rest of the day. I will have someone else start it next time while I look under the hood to see if I notice something. But for now...no answers here.

OK Jets - I tried to make the noise today and got a bit of rumble but stalled each time after a second or two. Either its unique to your vehicle or your clutching style. Try a few more RPMs before you ease out the clutch.
