Well, the Rubi take offs i bought didn't seem to have the TPMS sensors. But the price I paid for 5 tires with less than 100 miles and rubi rails was more than a steal. This was questionable when I bought the tires because when I asked the guy he didn't know what TPMS was... I still have my stock tires which came with my JK sport wth the TPMS sensors in them.
I've been driving for 3 days with correct tire pressure and the TPMS warning light still hasn't turned off.

1) Is there a way to take them out without removing the tire from the rim?

2) Any tips on actually making sure there is no TPMS sensors in the tires before I go to the tire shop to have them swap them from old tires to the new ones?

 

The tires have to separated from the wheels to take out the TPM devices. And the tire / wheels will have to be speerated on the new set to install the TPM modals.

I think that the TPMS valve stems are not flexible.

 

By separated, do you mean taken off the wheel?

 

I gues you could remove the TPMS just by simply breaking the bead. But IDK.

 

That's what I was seeing in my mind.

 

I took my tires I bought to a tire place. They had a hand held machine that could read the sensors without taking them off the wheel. They took out my tpms on 16's stock sport and put on 17 Rubi wheels. Have not had any problems.

 

I stopped by the Firestone tire shop on my lunch break, the guy quoted me $103 to swap them. No thanks. I could probably get it done for that price or less at the Stealership. I'll run it by an independent shop over the weekend.

Also are the sensors the same Mopar part # for both the Sport and Rubicon? I know from reading here a lot of folks have swapped them, but the guy was trying to lead in the direction that he could only do it if they are compatible....

 

The only difference in JK's is split by 2012 and older or 2013 and newer.

 

Well I have a 2011 and the tires and rims came off a 2012. I'm thinking I should be ok then. Just have to find a shop that won't charge me over a hundred bucks for a maximum of 30 min of labor

 

I've heard the alternative the tuner crowd uses is to make a closed PVC container with the TPMS sensors inside. You pressurize it, clear the code and then no worries.
