The antithesis of modified Jeeps - Hypermiling
I plan on "near" hypermiling.
Looking at a 2012 stock Sahara JKU auto with 3.21's....no other mods except stuff for the interior.
I'm hoping to get 17'ish in the city and 22-23'ish on the highway at 70mph. Anything above 70 is a waste of gas anyway because it is a brick on wheels.

My stock height, stock tire JKU Rubicon/6 speed with a Superchips 87 tune regularly gets 18-19mpg. I have a very short in town commute, and get out on the highway (65mph) fairly frequently.
Best ever was 22 mpg on a long flat trip where I only stopped one time on a tank, and kept the speed under 70. I think that is the best I can do with the 4.10's.
I have never driven it to the point of being completely empty, but am always above 300miles on a fill. 400 seems possible, but there is no way I would tempt fate and that gas light.
Let us know what things you might try to experiment with the fuel mileage. Not something I am overly concerned with on a daily level, but it is fun to try stuff.

Jeez, I must be doing something wrong. Stock 09 Rubicon, routinely average 17 or so. I think I got over 18 once. This is mostly highway at 65 - 70 mph.
This jeep gets measurably crappier mileage than my '07 Sahara did. I just attributed it to the tires and gears.

I managed to get 27 mpg from jeeps computer ('11 2DR 6 Speed 3.21's) drafting a semi doing 50-55 mph with cruise control on. I wasn't able to calculate actual mpg's but i had a 60 mile drive that i did with the dash telling me i had 50 miles DTE soo i guess i did something right

LMAO. This is usually how I treat MPG.
I posted this thread because hypermiling a Jeep is like entering a bulldog in a greyhound race. It's stupid and pointless, but entertaining. I have to drive to KC from Denver several times a year and I'd like to take my new 2012 more than my wife's VW, but if it gets the same 13mpg my 09 Rubi got (5.38 gears on 37s)...then the VW it will have to be. The 2012 is more efficient and has more power so the power to weight ratio is better. Throw in that I'm tuning down a bit to 5.13 gears on this one and I think I can get 17mpg on the hwy at 75mph.
