Default Anyone do suburban offroading?

Sometimes I forget I'm on the street, even though I don't wheel much (). Guess it's just from having a capable vehicle. Here's an example; yesterday freeway traffic was at a total stop and the right shoulder was basically a 45 degree wall. So, what'd I do w/o even thinking? Rather than slow down I stuck it in 4 wheel drive and drove on this shoulder, passed the traffic, put it in 2wd and went back on the road. Stupid. One mistake and I could've smashed into someone, but sometimes it just "happens" that I'll do that. Anyone else have this problem? How about this? You're stuck in stop and go and there's a huge median full of brush to your left and you just say "F it," and look around for po po and if no po po, you drive over the giant median and u turn into the other lane?

None of this is smart, that's not where I'm going with this. I just sometimes find myself doing things, well, because I have a Jeep and I can, to beat traffic. I always regret it afterwards because it's unsafe.

And it doesn't happen often; rarely in fact. Just curious about the rest of you.

I do it everyonce in awhile, like if I need to make a left turn and I'm stuck in traffic and can't make it to the turn lane. Nothing drastic though.

Cool

I'll jump a curb or divider every now & then if I can do it safely and without ticket.

Yep. Done it when there is a snow storm and cars cant move. Curb, field (gotta watch those drainage ditches), whatever. What's a jeep for if we can't use it. (Plus in Denver people really don't know how to drive in the snow---I'm from MN originally)

The greatest feeling is around Christmas when the mall parking lots are full. The guys with the 4x4 trucks and jeeps all park up on the grassy spots where the cars can't! What's even cooler is when you are walking out to you jeep when leaving and a car begins to stalk you for your spot. The look on their face when they see where you are parked is priceless! But hey, I also feel sympathy in that I hate finding spots in a crowded parking lot.

I was cruising around with the girlfriend the other night, and we were basically just ranting and raving about what a bummer winter in New England is. We've been talking about moving down South next year, and I told her that before we move we need to take advantage of the snow.

She said "Psshhh. What advantage does snow have?" My reply? "THIS"

I swerve off the road and into an open field, throw it in 4WD and start to write our names in the snow. I'm very impatient, so my feeble attempt at our names just resulted in me doing donuts and figure 8's.

...Unless that open field happened to be your property. If so, this story is made-up.

My most recent example:
I was trying to leave a fast food parking lot but there was no way out due to so many cars being backed up in the drive through.
The lot next door was still under construction so there wasn't any nice landscaping yet, so I just drove over the parking spot curb and lot curb and drove off that way.

A mobile home was blocking the road the other day by my house. Drove through a field and a 3ft ditch and went around them. Had about ten cars stopped behind me. Haha. Btw, I know the people that own the field.
