Default Around the world

A friend of mine last year took 6 months off and went around the world on his BMW motorcycle. I was wondering if anyone here tried that with Jk/Jeep.

I found this at a blog and this got me interested

Jeep Expedition Around The World
“The Expedition has proven to be quite the adventure, successfully crossing through nearly 18 countries and tracking over 17,000 miles thus far."

What would you do, boat your JK across the Atlantic to continue the journey over there?

I've often thought it would be cool to drive down to the southern most tip of South America... ah, day dreams

I am in Logistics so YES

Depends on the money..Racing cars are always moved by airfreight because they have the money. Jk can be moved by ocean freight at much cheaper rate but you have to wait until your JK arrives at destiantion. It is all about finding the longest route driving and least transit time in ocean

This is what my friend did.
From Los Angeles to Toronto on bike
Airfreight the bike to London rode South Korea
Australia than back to LA

He was camping/Staying at Biker hang out and hotels

You might need to make a few mod's to your Jeep.

Now you are talking. ADVENTURE BABY!!!! That's my language. The only difference in taking a JK and a bike is money. Bikes are easier and cheaper to ship.

As an American there are few countries that will not issue a visa immediately. So the most important thing is you need your passport and title of the vehicle. The original title not a copy. Second is knowing current events, you do not want to ride into a place of civil unrest.

Doing what your friend did is stuff of my dreams. I have traveled all over the world with my work and enjoy where I go but to just take off and go... HELL YEAH!

My wife is Romanian and owns property in Bucharest so I have thought about having two BMW 1200GSA one in Europe and one in the USA. That way when I'm off work I can travel till the next project comes up. In this day and age of satellite phones, GPS, internet you can always stay in contact.

So far i've been in all of North America, Europe, Africa, South East Asia, Middle East, and even in one "axis of evil" country .

If you remember the series and book "the long way around" , they passed through Alaska during the summer with a lot of wild fires 2004. I was there working during that time. I love seeing places where I have been on TV. Just like the scenes in "Blood diamond" at the port in Cape Town South Africa. I can tell you the exact spot that was shot at.... I was there in 2005.

GO BABY GO

I've always wanted to do a riding tour of Europe, and recently have begun cycling more seriously. Now I'm torn between riding, and cycling, but one day, the dream will come true. As awesome as I would think it would be to take the JK, the logistics would be strenous.

But to think of driving through Africa, just awesome. Toymaster is my new idol btw.

I am on the same boat..I love to travel and I get to travel for work...But not as much as you

I know all of us dream of doing something like that so I thought I should post it here and see if anyone tried it or even considered...I have been working since I was 18 and I will be 40 in 2013 so I have delcided that I will take six months off and do something fun and this advanture might be added if management and my pocket permits
