guess i didn't realize they did away with the original selec-trac system... my wife's liberty had command-trac (NP-231) and i had always wished it would have had the selec-trac (NP-242) because it would have been safer for her to use on road...

sounds like the new selec-trac II uses clutch packs for torque transfer
another thing to wear out...

and my entire response wasn't directed solely at you, benny... sorry if it seemed that way since i quoted part of your post...

i just get frustrated sometimes when i read incorrect info and nobody sets things straight... that's how FUD gets spread around about "other" Jeep models such as the liberty...

i don't know how many times i had to remind one of my TJ owning friends that our Liberty had the same transfer case that's in his "real" Jeep... (hell, he even thought the 4-banger TJs had a weaker t-case than his almighty 4.0)

i've never been a Jeep "bigot" myself... i never understood why people get all uptight about this or that on the other models... who cares? i even drive a Patriot for my work vehicle and happen to like the thing...

i don't even wanna get started on the 2011 JK interior debate crap... those that say that the 2007 - 2010 interior is more "jeepy" or "rugged" than the 2011??!!
have these people ever even owned a CJ? let alone seen one? i'm sorry but the plastic '07 - '10 interior is no more "real jeep" than a honda element...

but, i'll stop now since i'm going way off topic... haha

I like pulling a manual shifter to engage 4x4 or getting out and locking hubs. A button is worse, an automatic electronic system is the absolute worst.

Well even if it was directed solely at me that's ok, everything you said is true.
I actually like the older selec-trac myself, we used to have a 2004 Liberty. I wouldn't mind the original selec-trac as an option in the JK.
I sure wouldn't want the new selec-trac ll as an option though, it's good enough in the Liberty(2008-11) like my wife has, but not in the JK. Like mjolnir said above, I like the manual shifter, I hope they never go to the electronic ones in the wrangler.

I have this on my wife's GMC Envoy 2004.
If the rear wheels spins then engane the front, and it goes back to 2wd.
I tried it in snow, didn't like it much, because the delay was too long, so I switched it back to regular 4wd.

Full time 4wd is different as someone explained, the KJ had it at least in 2002.
