Default Auto or Manual trans.?

I've had two jeeps but I've never really done any off roading. (Rock Crawling). I went to the dealership to start the buying process and I had my mind set on a stick.....the salesman said to get automatic. He said everyone on the trails is using auto....Is he telling me the truth? Am I thinking right to buy manual shift?

Little Help.....

Ask him which trails he runs. Nuff said.

You might as well ask us what color you should get.

No, really I'm serious, quit looking at me that way. I mean it.

I like stick, the benefit of different gear options and such I like. But if you're a serious rock crawler and are perched on a ledge then an automatic is going to be your friend.. if you're not great at multi-tasking.

With that said, I think you should buy a silver Jeep. That's the color I prefer.

I like the 6 speed, I recently bought an 07 Sahara (STICK). I drove a auto and the stick seems like a better choice for road and offroading to me. Gas mileage is better with the stick for sure.

Hi Guy! The best advise I can give you is to seriously consider how you will NORMALLY drive and where you will NORMALLY drive. This will point you in the correct direction. I live in the country and once I get up to speed I usually do not need to shift much. If you drive in a more urban area with stop and go / bumper to bumper type traffic you may want to consider that in your decision. Tranny's are very driver / condition specific and if I were to recommend one over the other I would likely point you in the wrong direction. Sorry and good luck with the decision. Take care... Mike
