Default Automatic Door Locks, Why?

Can someone tell my why these jk'S automaticly lock the doors as you start to drive?

Is this to prevent car jackings? Hahaha

Because when your in the jeep and open the door from the inside it doesnt matter if its locked or not it opens...

So why add such a useless feature to the jeep?

I think it has to do with some type of security/safety standard on all new vehicles. You can turn it off if you like. The directions are in the manual. I turned mine off as I'm always using my tailgate and it's very annoying

I found this a nice feature, until i took the doors off and realized the swing gate stays locked now!!!! Why isn't the power lock switch in the dash?!

Power locks are great on any vehicle. You can lock the doors with one button from inside the house (or tent) with your pants off.

The locks might as well be there in a JK that has 7 computers, a data network, and almost everything else under some kind of electronic control. Its not like leaving them off makes the Jeep much simpler.

As far as why they lock automatically: Its a social problem. People expect to be protected from everything and everyone (and someone else to blame if something goes wrong). So the doors lock automatically to create an illusion of security.

Just turn the damn thing off. Its in the manual. You can also set it so the doors all unlock with one click, and so the effing headlights don't come on.

(I wish turning the auto-lock off worked better for me. I turned them off but constantly hit the button with my left knee, which is always one of those "what the Hell was THAT?" moments. I guess the guy who designed the door panel had 28" inseams; mine are 34".)

I love the power locks for the same reason as stated above. Very convenient. But what I really like is not having to use the key to unlock tailgate

Plus I couldn't constitute spending 30k on a vehicle and not having power locks and windows

I think I read somewhere that it's a Federal safety requirement, just like the TPMS system. If you don't have power door locks, I guess you're out of luck.
