Ok guys so I know there are a TON of bed lining threads out there and I have read through all I could find. I never received the answer I have been looking for, so I thought I would start a new thread.

I have some American racing punisher rims in black chrome. They are pretty chewed up from rock crawling and I've decided that I want to do away with the chrome and bed line them black. I do not want to have them powder coated as its expensive and will not last.

My question is: has anyone had any experience with bed lining an after market rim? I know the process of doing a stocker but I'm sure the chrome will not be the same as aluminum. I will be using rust oleum bed liner. Also, what primer/grit sand paper should I buy? 400?

Please help!

I know with powdercoating the playing on chrome can be a bitch to deal with. I would assume bedlining would have the same issue. As long as you can sand down through the plating, it should allow the bed liner to stick.

That is what I was worried about! I was planning on using a wire brush and a drill, then sanding and priming. Do you think that would be enough?

Just an FYI for everyone. I did some research today on my lunch break and have found that it is easier than I ever imagined.

All you need to do is wash, sand down and use self etching primer, three coats. Then clean and sand again. He said not to use to gritty of a sandpaper bc it will show in the paint job. After sanding again, use a regular primer for two more coats and paint.

I got this information from a motor cycle painter who has been painting for 25 years. He told me he had never had any of his paints chip using this method (painting chrome fenders). He said all the work is in the priming and then the paint is easy. Take your time and it will last!
