Default Bestop Supertop problems??

First, I will say that Installing this thing was the worst experience ever! What a cheaply made POS!! The front pieces that hold the top on over the driver/passenger are extremely poorly designed! I know they make the soft tops that the factory uses, so I thought it would be a better design.

My '08 Sahara had 2 latches that held the front header to the windshield frame. This this has 2 brackets with these long screws, which have a hand piece so they can be screwed in by hand. That is, IF it threads properly!! At one point (after having spent 6 hours assembling and installing the top), when trying to screw them in, the drivers side actually fell out, the bracket landed on the steering column, and since it was dark, I didn't see it there and it actually slipped BEHIND the steering wheel (where the wheel tilts, there is a gap) and we had to take the dash apart to retrieve it!

Now that the top is on, there's a huge gap between the top and the windshield frame... I'd say about a cm or so, which is a lot of space for a roof. So, WTF do we do to try and bring that in? We are completely exasperated with this whole thing!! I told my boyfriend how easy it is to drop the top but THIS top is a f..king nightmare!!

Had my soft top off and stored for two years. When I put it on, I had the same thing. I believe the fabric shrinks a bit. Just takes some finesse to get it on.

Anyone know what their return policy is? I think it's gonna get removed and returned. We were
Promised it was the same thing as the OEM and it definitely is NOT. I used to pop my factory top off in like 15 mins, and about 25 to put it back on, by myself (and I am a 5' tall out of shape woman). This whole product has been a nightmare and that gap is unacceptable on a brand new product. My OEM didn't have any problems whatsoever.

I had the same issue when I installed mine a month or so ago. The first couple times I really had to work to get it to latch. I found it easier to latch when the rear was loose. Also make sure the latches are fully extended. Once I got it latched the first time I left the top up for a few days to stretch the fabric out.

Edit: even factory tops can have this issue https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...easily-306268/

Yeah I do remember it took a few times to loosen things up a bit.

This particular top didn't even have latches at the windshield frame. It was 2 long screws with a plastic rim so you can screw it in by hand. It had a small metal plate with a hole in it that you placed the large screw through, and screwed it into a metal hole that was attached to a tab on the frame of the soft top. I can't put it into words because I don't know the proper names for the pieces. But it wasn't a "latch". My boyfriend took pix, I'll have to post it. At the risk of being totally "non-PC", the engineer who came up with the idea is a friggen retard. Sorry, no other way to put it.

We boxed that hunk of garbage up and we ordered a factory, OEM top.

This is the screwball set-up on the top we got. The black metal piece is very easily lost (lost it down the steering column on the very first day... 1 in a million shot but it happened!!) and it's just such a STUPID system!!

Hopefully the pic uploaded right, I'm doing this from my phone...
