Default better price question

If I go to the dealer and talk to them about ordering a JK the exact way I want do they ever come down on price or would I be better off taking one off the lot. I found two or three JK's with the options I want but not the color. If I could get some money off I would be willing to go with a different color but if not I will just order what I want and wait for it to show up

I bought mine through the Costco program. No haggle. I paid $400 over invoice with all the options I wanted at invoice price. Not too bad. The pricing was good for dealer inventory as well. I figured for the $100 a year Costco dues it is not too bad. I have been a Costco member for a couple of years, especially since we had kids and needed a boat load of diapers over the years. Some things pay to buy in bulk. The only negotiation we had to do was on the trade in. I got what I believed was a fair trade in for my 02 Liberty.

i ordered mine $500 over invoice from my local dealer. that's coming down about $2000 off their markup (above MSRP). i felt extremely fortunate though. they tried to kick me out when i kept trying to push them after they offered $250 under MSRP but i kept at it.

Most dealers these days will order one for you at invoice (possible even less). Some dealers will sell one off the lot for invoice. As the demand drops, so will the lot prices.

The Costco program takes no longer than a normal transaction at the dealer. Simply logon to costco.com, go under the services tab and find their auto program. Input the type of new car you want. They contact a dealer in your area that is participating in the program. the dealer will call within a day or you can call them with the info that Costco provides. Go to the dealer, show your costco card and they will share the invoice, msrp, and prenegotiated costco price to you. No haggling involved. I hate the haggle part. It takes way too much time. I did find a good negotiating tactic by accident when haggling on the trade in value. I had my wife and two boys, 4 and 1 1/2 years old with me. They were getting anxious so I had them put on their coats and start to walk to the door. My wife was simply going to take them to get something to drink; however, the dealer saw this and came up $1700 on trade like that and made the deal happen for what I wanted. As a bonus to the program, Costco give you $50 bucks to spend at the dealer on service, parts, whatever you want after the sale. I figured I would buy the slush mats.

I'm paying 24920 (before fees) for my '07 Unlimited (23S, side air bags, 4.10, 4x4, manual). The dealer here insists that there is no negotiation on price because of demand. I have yet to see a 4x4 '07 unlimited that wasn't sold the day it showed up on the lot here. I'm in Wilmington, NC, right by the beach; I've never seen so many Jeeps in one area as I have here. This dealer still has 40 '06 wranglers on the lot.

i'm going to have to completely disagree with the first half of your post with regard to 2007 jeep unlimited 4x4's. there ARE discount places around the country that are still giving good deals; costco, aafes, jeepwarehouse, etc. but the demand for the 4dr jeeps is only climbing, especially with spring/summer on approach. there's reports of dealers around the country putting a $3000+ markup on these, JUST because the demand is so high. apparently there's over 50,000 jeeps backordered. the best case scenario at a dealership seems to be getting the point across to them that you're ONLY going to get their lowest price. eventually, they all seem to say something to the effect of "i simply can't negotiate any lower. we both understand what invoice price is. but these are in too high of demand. sorry."

and i believe them honestly. they're not non-profit organizations. if i were a dealership, i wouldn't want to tie up my allocation with an order at invoice, when i know i can fill that same slot with a sale @ MSRP plus $500 or higher.

as for the last part of your post, yes. as the demand drops, so will lot prices. unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be anywhere in the near future.
