Big question for a JK N00B!!
So i appreciate jeep wranglers for there off road capabilities as much as the next guy and i have every intension of going wheeling in it up @ rausch park. But im only 18 and i saved for my wrangler for 2 and a half years dont wanna scratch the shit out of it. After all i just spent $27000 and havent gotten any mods yet. Is wax the way to go or are there any other ideas ?? Let me know
Well its hard to not scratch it up a little when wheeling, but if your really that concerned you can try those stick on clear sheets, they make them custom cut for the front of cars, but you can also buy just rolls. When it gets scratched beyond your liking just peel it off, wash, and re-apply. A bit expensive in my opinion, but would definitley protect you from all but the most extreme scratches.
Might as well scratch it now and get it over with. Helpfull hint, wheel with the doors off and windows out if you have a softop, hard top just take it off. You've just eliminated half of your jeep from scratches.
go to rausch, come out for JK fest... you prob will not scratch it at Rausch.. every single person on here paid pretty much what you paid... and most of us wheel their jeeps. believe it or not, but my scratches are from the parking lots, not wheeling.
Welcome to the jk family....
I can see you're problem... when I was 16 my first car was a 1954 chevy pick up truck my dad had bought when I was 10 at a farm auction... I saved my $$ and had it all fixed up, it was a cool ride, and I still have it today to be passed down to my son here in a couple years....
Now, I'm not exactly comparing apples to apples here, but only to explain how I can understand you're feelings on the scratches and things...
Now because you have decided to buy a jeep as you're first vehicle, you already have plans to take a vehicle designed to go off-road and use it part time for that purpose...
You are going to have to decide how hard you want to wheel you're jeep, at first you will be easy on it, but as time goes by and you see how much fun it is and see how far it can go, you will end up having some scratches from tree branches, rocks, mud etc... My feeling is with my jeep that as long as I don't suffer any major body damage, the scratches are just a part of playing with it, kinda goes with the territory!!!
Keep a bottle of buffing compound in the garage, and learn how to use a buffer if you want to keep most of the scratches at bay...
Speaking for myself and most of the folks on the forum, I don't understand why anyone would buy one of the most capable off-road vehicles and bling it up and never use it for what it was intended for .. I know not everybody are hard core off roaders, but to never at least once try a trail or off road destination is a sin against the jeep gods....
Have fun, be careful, respect the land on which we use, and just know that scratches come from using you're new jeep and show the world you love going out and enjoying the great outdoors....
Oh yea, chicks dig dirty jeeps!!!!

Don't worry about sratching it, you will barely see them depending on what color you have too. My JK is all black: I definitely see the sratches and dirt.
HOWEVER, remember your JK has [strong] skid plates. When you hear them doing their job, don't freak out. You're fine!
Once you take it offroading for the first time or two, you then truly begin to understand the purpose of a Jeep and what they are capable of and why you bought one.

your gonna scratch it no way around it, speaking of rausch I got this one my last trip there
