I've seen both shiny and matte (no chrome) and they both look great.

Off topic, but does the tire sit on the trailer hitch? I want to fab something up to counter the leverage from my tire on the tailgate

I like matte finish.... The gloss fininsh gets pitted over time and looks bad.

I would think Matte would be easier to care for If I had the shiny black it would make me crazy if I saw imperfections...but that's me being OCD

If you are going to wheel it, get matte. It is easier to touch up with a sharpie marker! You WILL scratch your wheels, so take that into consideration!
