I have cousin's that own a dealership up in Seattle and they have salesmen that do this when they don't have any customer's on their property. It is a way for their sales team to make cold calls to sell cars. It is a scam. They spark your interest then try and rip you off on what they will give you, what you buy the new one for, and what % rate your new loan will be at. They make money on all 3 of them if you are dumb enough to go in to check it out.

Yeah, just think about it for two seconds.... there are tons of JKs sitting on dealer lots right now with almost zero miles on them. There are 07's, 08's, 2-doors, 4-doors, black ones, white ones, Saharas, Xs... some dealers even have Rubicons.... all brand-spanking new. Why would Chrysler need yours with 18k on it and a leaky top?
They don't.

Chrysler controls their own manufacturing, so it would be pretty darned easy for them to push through one special order for a client. And if they wanted something like different gearing on an X model, they could knock that out at a custom shop for much cheaper than buying back a used model from a customer. Definitely sounds fishy.

Arm yourself with knowledge then go in there prepared. If they are using a sales play (and wasting your time) then make sure you take them for a ride before politely (or not so politely) informing them that you are not interested.
I'd make a game of it. For every slick move they made I'd request something from them. A test ride in which you REALLY test the vehicle's mudding capability. Or, keep asking for odd things to test their resiliency. Like a side step on the passenger side and a rock rail on the driver's side (because your husband likes rock rails and you need a step). Or you could get their hopes up really high by having them spec out a fully loaded Rubicon with aftermarket everything. Tell them price is not object but you need the lowest payments possible for as many years as you can finance. Act really excited and take them all the way to the signing phase before deciding that there is too much sentimental value in your current JK to ever let it go. Smile and walk away.

GM does this too. Ford would send post cards: "We want your used vehicle! We're running low on our used inventory, so trade yours in now, help us out, and get a new car in the process!"
