Default Chrysler and the Fire "rumor mill"

O.K with the latest uproar in fire activity and the supposed recognition by Jeep, I think it is a good idea to show just what we have had experienced on THIS forum alone over the years. There is a thread already on it (Lots actually) and it is a few years old and this should help us compile data. Have a look and if you have something please share as Jeep says "Only 15 cases have been reported".

Seems like allot of people are coming forward like it is the first they are hearing about it so might as well make a home for it?

I haven't gone through all of those threads... but it sounds like this is mainly happening in automatic (with transmission coolers/hoses). I'm glad I ordered a manual - but those with autos be sure to check that your trans/cooler tubes are not 'weeping' just to be safe. This is a pretty scary situation and seems to be happening at random.

It's Politics as usual, the NHTSA won't put a MFG out of business, or cause them harm.
It would be nice to email them your post, thats not what they want, they need fact's not JK-Forum rumors.

Business is in bed with business, and that's is what the NHTSA is, a business. Strict guide line are used when filling out a complaint form with proof, and if somebody forgets to dot the i or cross the T or they don't like the structure, the complaint is tossed out.

Remember our government only has a 20% approval rating why should the NHTSA be any different !

I know the dealers are keeping their mouth shut, they wont bite the hand that feeds them, so it's up to the owners and local governments and court's to bring the alarm

China told chrysler back in 08 because of fires they won't take any JK until they improve the trans cooler, and a few other things, what does that tell you

The NHTSA doesn't know that ----------Bull

Look at the 2012 trans cooler !

I feel they know there are more than fifteen complaints

Best advice people ... keep the O.D button off unless on the highway. EVERY auto I ever owned I did as its a habbit. Overdrive @ low rpms = heat. I could get tecnical but its the nature of fluid shear.

The very design of Jeep's sad "Eco" mode puts people @ risk as the only way it will work is in overdrive @ low rpm. I have a hunch that the 2012 redesign may be a realization that the 3.8/4 speed auto with horrible gear splits was not just a longevity concern ...... but a safety one too.

Not sure if every owner is covered but I got a notice in the mail last year from Jeep telling me to bring it in for a recall. They changed the weeping hoses but when I went in to pick it up, they wouldn't tell me why they did a mass recall. So I brought up the fire issue, and his jaw almost hit the floor, he got kinda stern, and asked me how I knew so much. I told him the Jeep community talks, and it was on the news. Amazing how the salesmen know so little, and the managers hold so much back. Jerks.

Read through the one listed in the original post labeled 'REAL BAD ONE' - that details it, including pictures. Only 40 or so pages long, quick to flip through lots of useful info.

Default cheaper burned up

I know two jku's that were a little too hot....I have purchaced two myself.
I bought a rubi with minimal fire damage....it burned the battery and some wiring...it was luckily close to a fire extinguisher........great price for parts rig...
I also bought a completely burned up jku that wasnt so lucky...that i plan on turning into a trailor....

Simple way to look at a realistic number is to google IAAI ....insurance auto auctions inc, its a dealer only site but you can still do a search for jeeps and you would be surpised the number of fire related salvage jk's on there........all directly from insurance companies after they buy the rigs back and sell them for salvage.

Really think this will help?
