Default Cost of a new key?

I was wondering if anyone knows what the cost of a new key should be? I lost one somewhere in the house and want a third so I have two on hand. A week ago I asked a service writer and he seemed confident that it was like $230. However, I asked a salesmen and he said about $120. What sounds right? I have a blank to open the doors if I lock the keys in, but not sure if I want to spend $230 for a key. I'll be picking up my JK today after the gas tank is fixed, so I wanted to go in with some knowledge.

Ya that price sounds right. Unfortunately I think you need two keys to program a third.

Take it to a locksmith shop. They can do one for about $100.

Will I need to buy a key and bring it to them, or should they have one?

You MUST have two keys to program your new third one. I bought one with the transponder in it off ebay for way less than that. Had it cut at a Home Depot. Then programmed it with the included directions.

Had to promise the guy at the Depot if it didn't cut correctly it wasn't his fault. But it's super easy to reprogram.

As far as needing two keys, they said that they would reprogram my one and a new one to a new code.

Oh, so you only have the one? Well, yeah as far as I know the dealership will have to handle it. But you may wanna buy another taking the route I mentioned so you won't have this problem if you lose another.
