Default Crappy Windshields!!!

I have just passed the 1 year mark in my '09 Rubicon and have accumulated over a dozen rock chips that are about dime sized. However, it was one of the smaller ones closer to the bottom of the windshield that took off running on me. It went from a small 4" split to about 2' in the matter of about a week. Impressive huh? Well apprently another one of the too numerous to count smaller chips wanted in on the action too, so it took off this morning as well adding another 6" crack that almost joins the other. I was hoping to just live with the larger ones until it was time to replace registration sticker next year, but it doesn't look like its gonna happen...

So now I have to spend $175 on a windshield instead of something fun and exciting upgrade!!! Thats the part that really sucks...

What's crappy about the windshield? Lots of them get chipped/cracked every day.
Not just JK's.

About 11 million windshields are replaced each year in the US.

The upright position of the windsheild makes it prone to chips, where most cars have quite a slant to them that makes smaller stones glance off, the Jeep takes them on squarely.
not nessissciarly a crappy winsheild, just a Jeep thing

I talked to my glass guy and asked him if they made some kind of "bullet-proof" windshields so I didn't have to replace it one a year...his reply was "absolutely not, then you wouldn't need to keep replacing it."

I realize that the shape of the glass will make it prone to chipping, and since the construction in Houston will never end, I am gonna tell him to keep them handy!

Add glass coverage to your auto insurance policy. Not that much extra per year and no charge for replacement.
