Here i sit trying to comprehend just why people who like jeeps, probably one of the friendliest bunch of people generally speaking i have been involved with, just have to fight amongst themselves about trivial crap like 2wd vs. 4wd.

fer cryin out loud, they are all JEEPS.

Some use more of the capabilities than others, some dont

Get over it.

I would love a Rubicon, but i dont need it, wouldnt ever scratch a tenth of it's potential, so why buy it? I say buy what you can use & spend the extra you saved on personalizing it for your specific purposes; and let everyone else do the same.

you think 4wd is the only answer, good for you. go get one and have a blast with it!

you think a 2wd better suits you, that's awesome, have fun!

I wanted a sahara for the Yes seats and 4wd for the winter and the northeast woods. there are thousands of owners who dont need that. to each there own!

Why argue about it? - Who has the better, bestest, most neato, coolest truck in the sandbox? Who cares? - seems childish to me.

Grab some beer, hit the beech, light the campfires and have a great time. Personally i think life is way to short and way to complex already to worry about if some guy from wherever has 2 more or less mechanically driven wheels than i do.

Exactly what the Patriot, Compass and Commander are doing.
I’m afraid you are the one who does not understand. Would you rather they discontinue the Wrangle line of vehicles completely? You may not like the direction the Wrangler has taken but without these changes, the legend would have died with the TJ.

The Wrangler is a niche market. You could argue that the off-road industry is huge and well worth the investment, but you would be talking about all off-road vehicles not just Wrangler. How many new Wranglers do you think are actually sold each year? I’m sure the number is pretty low. People don’t turn over their Wrangler for a new one every year or two, they invest money into it and build it into something bigger and they hold onto it.

The reports I have read from the first Rubicon trail ride, the Jeep engineers and representatives reported the same thing. They could not continue to meet safety and emission standards required by the government, and without these dramatic changes the only option was to discontinue the line altogether. Do you understand that? The Wrangler was in danger of going away.

It is expensive to re-engineer and to retool for the production of a new line. Jeep is not going to invest the time and money into a product line that cannot support itself, and they won’t rely on their other vehicle lines to support it either. They have to reach out and sell to people who would not have originally considered a Wrangler. The four door JK with it’s doors off and top down is going to appeal to a lot of people, but not all of them are going to need or want 4wd.

You should thank anyone that buys any variation of a Wrangler because it means you get to pursue your personal little hobby in the way you choose. Complain all you want but you need these people to help keep it alive.

Well it does seem here, that 4x4 is winning 69-1.

This is my first Jeep and my first 4X4 ever. I will probably have it in 4x4 maybe 3-4 times per year for snowstorms and to take my kids "offroading" which will entail going down some old logging road.

Do I need the 4x4 even though I live in Northern Ontario? I don't think so, I haven't needed it the past 15 years and have driven in all kinds of adverse conditions. I drive a cruiser 8 hours per day 24 days per month in the city, suburbia and rural locations without a 4x4 with no problems and we get some pretty nasty roads our Board of Works has much to be desired.

I bought my Unlimited because I have always liked Jeeps (not fanatically like some) but I liked the looks and the ride of them. Two doors weren't practical, my truck calfed out on me when my wife said get the Jeep you want. When I started looking I didn't even know the 4 doors were available. Bought one and love it.

If all I could have gotten was 2x4 then I would have gotten that and none the worse for wear. Just my 2 cents.

This is true.

However.

I think DC sold just a few more than 70 jeeps so far.

The results are skewed by:
  1. Jeep lovers.
  2. Jeep lovers with computers.
  3. Jeep lovers with computers that know where the power button is.
  4. Jeep lovers with computers that know where the power button is and who use them to search the internet for things about Jeeps.

Funny that you consider this very small response to be proof that you "win" the discussion. No one is arguing which is going to be more popular, 4wd or 2wd. In fact, I'd be willing to go out on a limb and guess that 4wd Wranglers will be more popular than 2wd. :toung:

As was stated, you can't possible get accurate numbers based on a simple forum poll. This particular poll doesn't even accurately reflect the people that are members.

At this moment there are 977 members, only 72 of those members bothered to vote.

FR, I'm not trying to peck a fight over this. You are certainly entitled to your opinion on the subject.

Drive your 4wd and be proud of it. I'm just suggesting that you might rethink such a hostile attitude and realize that anytime a Wrangler is sold, whether 2wd or 4wd, it's good for all of us. The more they sell, the longer the Wrangler will be around for us to enjoy.

It's not like you're going to run into them on the trails.

By the way, short of looking under the front end is there anyway to tell a 2wd from looking at the outside? They didn't put stickers on the side or something like that did they?

I'm locking this.

simply because....

It doesnt matter if you have 4wheel drive or two wheel drive. Your still driving a jeep. I love jeeps, all shapes, sizes, years and models from my 1954 Willys to my 2007 JK.

The JK takes enough beatings around the jeep community without JK owners doing the same.

Please keep in mind jeeps have feelings too
