Different 4wd systems
Hi Folks,
I don't mean to seem uneducated but I have a pretty basic question. Why is it that manufacturers, including Jeep, make some 4wd vehicles that once unexpectedly stuck in 2wd won't transfer into 4wd unless the vehicle has some forward momentum? Thankfully my JK is not among those vehicles. The other day I towed a Chevy 3/4 ton pickup off some ice. Just his rear wheels spun until he moved a few feet then the 4wd kicked in and all was fine. I also have a neighbor that has a Cherokee and his does the same thing. Seems odd to buy a 4wd that won't go into that mode if one accidentally gets stuck in 2wd? I'm sure there is a logical reason but I'm glad that the JK is set up the way it is verses the "other way"! Take care... Mike
