Default Dilemma

Recently purchased a 07 2 door and now chomping at the bit to start the mods. Here is the problem I am having and looking for some feedback on which way to go.

I get an annual bonus that is usually $2500 - $3000 which I plan on spending on the Jeep. I would like to get a coil lift and was looking at the Full Traction 3" economy lift, but would then have to get the adjustable track bars to go with it. And then would be stuck running the 35's on the 16" stockers and getting spacers. I would also like to get new front bumper and a winch.

So the question is this:

Get 35's, spaces and go with a Teraflex BB and run stock rims and eventually upgrade to a coil lift and new rims

Wait on the lift and tires and get front bumper, winch, rock rails and possibly a rear tire carrier bumper, then save whatever money would be left until I can get the rims, tire and lift I want all at the same time.

FT 3" economy lift = $600
Billstein 5100s = $350
JKS ADJ Rear track bar = $160
35" tires = $?? , My km2 were $1600
Wheels = many options, some are cheap. Black steelies would look good

I think you can get the lift and tires done for less than $3k. You can always get a cheaper shock, tires or wheels. Do the lift your self and save taht too. You can get it done, good luck with it

I agree.
Lift and wheels and tires first. You can wait on the bumpers and stuff.
Check the 'for sale' section here also. Folks sell stuff all the time when they upgrade or trade-in their Jeeps.

I went with wheels and tires first, then caught the lift on sale. Bumpers came along later, but I was much happier with the Jeep already lifted and rolling bigger rubber.

Here is an option...
  • Rancho 4" Sport Lift (For sale on the forum HERE), including RS900XL adjustable shocks - $750 (Shipped! Maybe less since he hasn't sold it yet)
  • 5x Goodyear Duratracs from Discount Tire Direct with JK-Forum Discount - $1500 (maybe less)
  • 5x Cragar Soft 8's 17x9 from Discount Tire Direct with JK-Discount - $600 (maybe less)
  • JKS Quicker Disco's 2.5"-6" Lift Height from Northridge 4x4 - $150. (or less)
Total - $3000 (or less)

Some points to consider with this option:
  1. Control arms not needed.
  2. Drive shaft(s) will be needed (eventually).
  3. Lot's of people run the Rancho 4" Sport Lift and love it. See for yourself HERE.
  4. The RS9000XL adjustable shocks are really nice.
  5. If Discount Tire Direct comes through with big discounts, you may even save enough to be able to afford ACE Rock Rails (Additional $150 + shipping)
Good luck in your decision.

This is certainly a viable option. Rancho is a good company. That is the wheel and tire combo I was thinking of. C ragar soft 8 look great on a Jeep. The Duratracs are not too steep. There are some cheaper tires too taht seem to get good reviews. The General grabber A/T tires are comprable and cheaper at most places. This is the fun stuff!! I love mod-searching

As you'll hear it depends on how you plan to use your Jeep which will determine your mods. Looks like you're wanting mildish, so I am with the others that posted; go with lift, tires, wheels, etc and postpone the bumpers etc... Just my It may take some searching (which I agree is the fun part) and some work/research on your part but if you install the stuff yourself you save a ton on labor and who doesn't like working on their Jeep?! You can definitely get what you're looking at or similar for the $3K, then spend a weekend mod'in.

Good luck and don't forget to post back and let us all know what you went with (with pics)!

Im running the 2.5 inch teraflex Coil lift with shock extenders and kinda wish I went bigger but the prices of driveshaft and control arms kept me away so I went with a body lift on top of that. I run Stock jeep commander rims with 37's and love it. Glad I put the money towards rims somewhere else. For my lift and tires and all that I spend: 450 on the lift, 200 on the tires (picked them up from dirt man cheap), 20 bucks on rattle can for the rims, and 80 for the body lift (picked up off the forum), Fender cuts are free and help a lot too! So I got all this done for right around 800 bucks... Click image for larger version

OK, I have decided to go with the lift, wheels and 35's...Go big or go home, and this will finally fulfil a dream of running 35's on my DD.

I will be going with the Full Traction 3" economy lift, Nitto Mud Grapplers and 17" Moto Metal 951 Rim. This set-up will look awesome on I think!

Now the next question is, on the Project-JK write up, it suggests a new front track bar, while MattGT5 said rear track bar, I don't really want to get both. I thought I had read somewhere that you can change out one and use the brackets from that one on the other one, but I'll be damned if I can remember which way that went or if that is possible in this situation.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
