Default Do I really need a locker?

The next mod was gonna be a locker....
but question is do I really need it? I wheel almost every weekend and go to events at least twice a month.. So far I have made it on every trail that locked people have.

Comments, please.....

In Moab I followed a guy that had rear lockers only. There were a few things he could not go up because he didn't have the front locker. I had not problem in my Rubi. In fact, it was almost easy. The guys without lockers didn't even try, they just winched up.

I guess it really depends on what you are doing. If you go where you need to go and don't have them then don't waste the cash.

Like me you have the quick discos up front and with them you get great articulation and hence great traction. Also you have a d30 up front so I would not put one up there. There is a reason that the rubis have a 44 up front, much stronger and with the locker you want that strength. With small diff my moto has always been small tires locker ok, big tires lockers bad news, something has to give and I would rather have a tire slip than have my axle break.
So if you do decide that you have to have a locker I would put it in the back where you have the d44. Good luck on whatever you decide and have fun on the trails.

lockers make an unbelievable difference in traction!! yes you can take a vehicle without lockers up some of the trails a locked truck can go, the only difference is that you will have to push your vehical much harder. lockers will take allot of strain off of your vehicle as you wont have to use the gas to get over an obstacle.

Get a tire or two off the ground and see if the factory traction control (Brake Lock Differential) is good enough for what you expect to wheel over.

So guys like us with x's with dana 44's in the rear and the 30 in front should only put a locker in our rear for now until we put 44's in the front?

I have an X and I'm curious of how I can put lockers into my Jeep. would the 44's be enough for 37's?

If you are getting the 44 up front then for sure get the lockers. That is why one of these days I am going to get me a rubi. I want lockers real bad because they make such a difference. I got my X used with over 5k in mods for only 17k so I couldn't pass up a deal like that. Get the lockers and you will be amazed at what you can do.

I think I'll just wait till I upgrade all my tires, axles, lockers and gears.
