Driving on the Beach in NJ
This weekend I was in the Hamtons and someone started talking about bringing his Truck on the beach. Unfortunately I had my wife's car (Subaru) but thoughts started going through my head. Anyway, just did a search for driving on the beach in nj and found this site: http://www.njbba.org/beachaccess.htm
Anyway, question is, has anybody been on the beach in NJ and is it worth the $50.00+ or should I just head to Long Island more often? (And bring my Jeep this time)

Island beach state park
Driving your vehicle on the beach
You can drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle on the beach, with a valid permit, to gain access to areas of the park where you are allowed to surf fish. The Island Beach State Park issued permits though do not allow anyone to just drive around on the beach.
A three day permit is $50.00. It is valid for 72 hours, starting from midnight of the day of purchase. The number of three day permits that are issued is limited during the summer season. Annual permits are $195.00 and are valid for one calendar year. They are valid from January 1 and run through December 31 regardless of the date of purchase. You can obtain additional information about beach driving permits by calling the park at (732)793-0506.
he NJBBA recommends that the following equipment
be kept in your beach buggy.
Tire pressure gauge
First Aid Kit
Shovel
Snatch Rope or Tow Chain
Jack and Large Support Board
Flash Light
Spare Tire or Equivalent
Self-Contained Toilet (where applicable)
A Coast Guard or I.C.C. Approved Fire Extinguisher
Road Flares
Trash bags
I know they used to do equipment checks at the gate to IBSP not sure if they still do. They actually used to have the list of stuff required on the nj site but I just saw now it said to goto the buggy site. It used to require air pump too if I remember correctly. Its definitely not ment to go 4wheelin on, just to go fishing

Island beach State Park is a good fishing spot with about a 7 mile area you can drive on. You are expected to be actively fishing when not traveling to and from where you are fishing. Here is a list of required equipment:
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT FOR A MOBILE SPORTFISHING VEHICLE (MSFV)
Permits are issued to 4-wheel drive vehicle owners for fishing purposes only. Carrying the basic equipment listed is required whenever the MSFV in on the beach.
1) Fishing equipment and bait and tackle for each person over 12 years of age;
2) Tire gauge;
3) Spare tire;
4) Workable jack and board/support for jack in sand (3/4 in. x 12 x 12 in. plywood square minimum size)
5) Tow chain or snatch line;
6) Shovel;
7) Flashlight;
8) Fire extinguisher;
9) Auto first aid kit;
10) Litter/trash bag;
11) Minimum of 1/4 tank of fuel.
A current tide chart is highly recommended. Jumper cables for the vehicle's specific battery type are also recommended.
They patrol it frequently and do check you for required equipment.
They do have an air up station that usually works.

there is a link to the application on that page if you are still interested.
If you go there I suggest you have insect repellent for the green head flies.
