Default Drove a 2008 auto, JK yesterday, 4 the first time....

WHAT A BIG LET DOWN! it's like driving a 4 cylinder! is that just the Auto trans feel? I was ready to travel 3 hours and pick up a really nice 2008 rig up for sale, UNTIL I DROVE THE ONE YESTERDAY!!!! It only had 4000 miles, bone stock. I use it to occasionally pull my trailers with quads or whatever. There is no power or torque to do that. HELP! I found a great 2008 JK , only 6000 miles, with nice lift, winch, bumpers, sahara package, wheels and tires, nav.....all for under $30,000. I gotta add another 12,000 to 20,000 for an engine package to have real fun????? Is there anything that can be done to get that power up? How much will a CIA and new exhaust pipe increase the power? Is there a supercharger out for these motors?

In the upper right hand side there is a search function. Type in Hemi, Ripp, CAI, exhaust. If you think the engine sucks now, new catback and CAI, chip is not going to do crap for you. You need a Ripp supercharger or get a Hemi. Its not that bad IMO, granted I drove a Ford 4 banger prior to my Jeep. Remember it is not a sports car, its a Jeep.

I suspect that the gearing was pretty poor on your test drive vehicle. Compare something with 4.10s--say a Rubicon or an older JK with the factory tow package. That's a round-a-bout way of saying that I believe that the JK you test drove could be dramatically improved for a couple grand, not 12-20K. Also, these things really wake up anywhere from 3-6K miles, so this one may still be "breaking in."

maybe you are used to driving a TJ Cruiser note the word cruiser.

a jeep is better at lower speeds this is what it was designed for.

a truck is for towing

I agree. Just fix the gearing to get a little more torque, and I believe I heard from quite a few JK-ers, even my own 4x4 mechanic that the JK throttle response computer takes about 5-6k miles for it to "break in" and get use to your driving. I know the first 3k miles or so my JK was much weaker than my 4.0L TJ. But now I can't tell the difference at all between the two.

I think you mean FJ cruiser.

The 3.8 does suck. CAI is a waste of money. The only solution is a hemi swap. Maybe wait for the new engine rumored to be out in the 2011 model.

Great deal depend's on the set-up. I have the 6sp & 3.78 (tow pkg) and am fine. Jeep's are what they are, anyone that want's a fast ride and got a JK made a bad choice. As far as ragg'in on the engine, to me it compares about the same as the old 4.0 as far as pick-up.

Man, I want one of these bad! But not with that lack of power.
Artpics, what does it matter what I'm use to. I want a jeep with some gutts and power. You start loading up this thing with supplies and you'll be at the back of the pack stuck in the mud pit! The thing can't get out of it's own way now, imagine the lightning speed and torque it will have with a load on! Is the previous inline 6 cylinder stronger than the newer V-6? I might have to settle for a 2 door, rather not! What's a SC kit sell for? and will it last?

Flashpaq = 18hp if you run it on 93 octane

and sorry thought you was an FJ cruiser with your first post which does have a lot more power.

would i buy a 4 door NO as you say not enough power, but i am happy with my 2 door.

art, how's the power of the 2 door? Straight 6? I might be going that route. I really love the way the 4 door looks, and can always use a tad more room.
